Parking Problems at Bakersfield College – The Renegade Rip

Parking Concerns at Bakersfield College: Construction and Limited Spaces

As the construction at Bakersfield College continues to progress, the lack of convenient parking has become a growing concern for both students and staff. With the highly anticipated college dorm building estimated to be completed within the next 2 years, the already limited parking spaces on campus are being further reduced.

Assistant Director of College Safety, Carlos Rios, acknowledged the parking shortage, stating that there is no further expansion for student and staff parking due to the partial closure of P7. While there are 16 parking areas across the campus, some may not be the most convenient due to the ongoing construction.

To address the parking challenges, campus safety offers a shuttle escort service for students 24/7. This service provides students with a ride to their vehicles if they have parked far from campus, especially during evening classes when areas may not be well lit due to construction. Students are encouraged to call (661) 395-4554 for assistance and to be patient with staff.

Despite the parking frustrations, there are solutions available to help students and staff navigate the limited parking options on campus. Arriving early, utilizing alternative parking areas like P8 or P16, and taking advantage of the shuttle escort service are all ways to make the parking situation more manageable.

While parking may continue to be an issue in the foreseeable future, Bakersfield College is committed to ensuring the safety and convenience of its students and staff. By working together and utilizing the resources provided, the parking challenges can be overcome, allowing everyone to focus on their academic pursuits with peace of mind.
